The Lying Game randy wayne2 Interview: The Lying Games Randy Wayne on Relationships, Twitter Antics and Injuries.

The Lying Game’s Randy Wayne is gorgeous, multi-skilled and talented. The fantastic young actor has been in his fair share of roles, but we know him for his role as the fair and somewhat secretive Justin.

TVAfterDark was able to find out more about this talented and hunky actor through an exclusive ABC Family interview. From Randy’s character Justin to guest star roles on Hot in Cleveland to fans separating fact from fiction, this interview delves through some of the good and not-so-good parts of Randy’s job. Randy talks about working with The Lying Game cast, meeting Betty White, Jennifer Love-Hewitt and Joe Jonas on Hot in Cleveland and what’s in store for Justin and Laurel. We also find out more about his Oklahoma roots and how this helps with his acting, his prediction for Tebow and what it’s like recovering from his recent knee surgery. Let’s take a look at this great actor and what makes him tick.

The Lying Game versus Pretty Little Liars…

Sara Shepard is author of both book series Pretty Little Liars and The Lying Game, but the success of PLL wasn’t enough to scare off Randy. He says that he believed PLL’s success would only help TLG become successful itself, and he wasn’t too worried. “I knew that I wasn’t the lead of the show, so that pressure was not on my back, or my shoulders.” He also had the support of Alexandra, who he has worked with previously on TV series Talent: The Casting Call. “I knew that she was a very talented actress, so I knew that she could handle the pressure and I would just go along with it.” Randy also hasn’t read Sara Shepard’s Lying Game books, but was told it wasn’t that important because the show would be incredibly different to the original story line.

Justin’s relationship with Laurel…

One of the things we love about Randy’s character Justin is his relationship with Laurel (played by Allie Gonino). The two had a picture-perfect beginning, but their happiness was quickly shattered when Laurel discovered Justin’s real motives for chasing after her. Now Justin and Laurel are back together despite his lies, but it may not be to the approval of everyone else. Randy tells us: “I guess the big question now is, I don’t think Ted’s going to accept them being together now after knowing what his motives are. You don’t want a kid around that wanted to come and get revenge on you, dating your daughter, even though it’s out in the open now.”

Randy thinks the couple’s next move will be to hide their relationship (as was evidenced in ‘Dead Man Talking’) but that Justin won’t want this for them. “He wants to be honest, but now he has to still hide a relationship and still, in a way, lie about it.  And that means that Laurel’s being brought into the lies, which she hasn’t really been involved in yet.” Laurel and Justin may not have the most solid future ahead of them, especially since Laurel is now in a band. “Being in the band causes a big distraction from Justin and I’m sure Justin will start getting a little jealous of the attention that the band’s getting over him.”

What we’ve come to realise from the show is that trust is a huge issue for every character. From Sutton’s jealousy over Ethan and Emma, to Ted and Alec’s lies that grow quicker and more far-reaching by the second, every relationship is balancing on the tip of a precipice and everyone has something to lose. Randy says that of those who stand to lose the most, Justin and Emma are at the top. “If Justin doesn’t have Laurel he doesn’t have anything. He moved to Arizona for a certain reason and then that reason’s over, and now he’s only there for one more and that’s Laurel… then obviously Emma, because without Ethan or without a family she has nothing to go back to, just like Justin, so they’d both be on their own.”

Alexandra Chando and gorgeous co-stars…

For Randy, however, the show isn’t just about the story or the characters: it’s about the people he works with. Alexandra, in particular, is someone he describes as very dedicated to her work. “She’s not the kind that actually comes to set and goofs around when she does a scene.  She has no problem piping up and asking the writer and director and the producer and saying how can we make this work.” He also tells us that once off set, she’s “high on life” – and this is similar to his other beautiful and talented co-stars. What’s it like being surrounded by all this beauty and brains? “The thing about the girls on the show is that yes, they’re all really beautiful, but they’re also really cool, so there’s no egos on set… it’s like living the high life.”

We know that in the last episode, Justin had a brief encounter with Helen Slater’s character Kristin, and she wasn’t one to mess with. Randy says he’d love to work with Helen more; that if Justin had reason to go back to his original revenge plan, Kristin would be the place to start. “I would love it.  I would love to work with her.  I’d love to make her character question her relationship a lot more, and to be the instigator would be fantastic.”

Fans and their bizarre twitter antics…

As it comes with the territory, there will always be a fan lurking nearby with some form of love to spread on a star. For Randy, he’s found that he likes when people approach him in public. “I’m not so famous where it’s annoying.  So it’s actually kind of fun.” Yet on Twitter he has discovered that there is a much finer line drawn between himself and Justin. “People I don’t think would come up to you in general because of your character, but in person it’s nice and respectful and there’s separation, there’s a curiosity about what’s going to happen next, but online and in the Twitter world there definitely is not much separation sometimes.” Despite the sometimes rude and strange statements Randy will receive in Twitter, he isn’t worried when people are frustrated with his character. “If they’re not frustrated then I’m not doing my job.  The beauty of acting is making people like you and then dislike you and then like you again, because you can write something a certain way, but if you don’t bring that to the character then it’s not going to work.”

Justin as a bad guy?

When Randy was asked what he would like to see happen with Justin in the next few months, he responded with: “if you want me to be honest I will, I think that Justin’s always played the nice guy, whether his intentions were not, so he’s always come off as a nice guy except for maybe a couple of scenes.  And actually the scenes where he was a bad guy I enjoyed doing so I don’t know, I wouldn’t mind playing a bad guy on the show, I wouldn’t mind Justin, if they did break up, Laurel and Justin, then he’s in this town and he’s going to cause some controversy, and I think I’d like to see that happen.”

If Randy chose the guest stars…

“In the fantasy world, let’s see, we could have Paul Giamatti play my dad; that would be interesting.  But in the realistic world, I don’t know, I think it would be fun to have someone like, I forget her name, the girl from Glee, the pretty blonde girl.” I’m going to go with Dianna Agron here.

Starring in Hot in Cleveland…

Randy’s previous works include a guest star role on Hot in Cleveland, where our favorite male blonde played a blind person. He was fortunate enough to work alongside Jennifer Love-Hewitt and Joe Jonas; Jennifer he describes as “extremely funny and a naturally gifted comedic actress” and Joe as “a really down-to-earth guy”. The experience he says was hectic and often he was flying back and forth between sets so there wasn’t a lot of preparation time, but fortunately for him, there wasn’t too much to stress about. “When it comes to playing a blind guy they just said look off, don’t look too much at her face, and when you’re doing a scene just focus on where to go.  They said he’s used to being blind so play it normal, just don’t look at her.”

Betty White and her brilliant humor…

Hot in Cleveland also gave Randy the extraordinary opportunity of meeting Betty White. Randy says “she is one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met in my life. If you have a joke she pays attention and she’ll laugh at it and then she’ll always come back with her own jokes.  She’s definitely up there in age, but you would never know it by just talking to her.  She’s brilliant.”

Before the hype that stemmed from acting on TLG, Randy played a lot of Southern roles in which he needed a Southern accent. He credits his home life in Oklahoma for the ease in which he slipped into these roles, but after moving to LA he noticed his accent more and had to focus on enunciation and articulation. However being home for three weeks the accent has crept back on him; it’ll be when he goes back to LA that he’ll “have to work on it again.”

From the Super Bowl to knee surgery…

But all this being said about his acting and career, Randy is a normal guy with normal loves. He predicts that the Giants will win 28-23 in the Super Bowl, and while in Thailand over Christmas wit his girlfriend, he crashed his motorbike and broke his leg. “I had surgery two days ago and now I’m on the rehab train. It’s not fun.” The gorgeous man is human after all.

Future projects?

Randy has done fantastic in his roles in the past, and he continues to have a promising future. Besides The Lying Game and Hot in Cleveland, he did a movie called To Save a Life and has an upcoming film titled Honey 2 by Universal. “It’s the dance sequel to the original Honey with Jessica Alba.  That comes out on DVD February 26th, I think, 28th, or something like that.  So Honey 2 and then I also have a film that’s coming out called HARDflip.  It’s a skateboarding family drama.” Ah, the wonders of being so multi-talented.

Don’t forget to tune in for an all-new episode of The Lying Game Monday, February 6 at 9/8c on abcFamily.
