Well Revenge lovers, things in the Hamptons don’t stay calm for long – even without a bit of Emily meddling. This episode, aptly titled ‘Perception’, allowed us to find out more about Daniel and Emily’s past, introduces us to Grandpa Grayson (played by William Devane) and shakes up the cracking surface of Charlotte’s idea of a perfect father figure. Without spoiling too much, let’s peer into the looking glass and see what is really behind ‘Perception’.
Revenge Episode 1.13 Recap: ‘Commitment’
The episode begins with Emily quoting “The Marriage of Heaven and Hell” and the key characters perusing an invitation to The Fire and Ice Ball by Conrad and Queen Bitch. Victoria is watching a video of David while Charlotte walks in and narrowly misses seeing it. Emily looks stunning in white as she asks Danny what he thinks of her dress, then after he leaves she watches the same video Victoria was. Nolan calls to try and talk some sense into Emily’s crazy revenge plans to reveal Charlotte’s true father, and then we switch to see a very half-naked and hunky Jack (oh Nick Wechsler… delightful) receiving a huge TV as a present from Nolan.
Jack tries to fish some answers out of Nolan about Amanda’s disappearance, to no avail (aw Jack, while I didn’t ship the two of you, I still feel sad that you’re unhappy) but stumbles upon the interview tape between Amanda and Mason Treadwell. Daniel and Conrad’s father and son bonding gets interrupted by Grandpa Grayson, who has his own agenda when it comes to the Grayson divorce. And Jack says he’s sick of being played in a phone call to Amanda, which Emily hears.
The knowledge has Emily and Nolan in a tizzy, and Nolan makes an ‘oh snap’ comment when he says: “I think that you’re so busy looking down the road that you lost sight of us mere mortals long ago.” Ouch. Victoria confides in Ashley about the absence of her father growing up, to which Ashley attributes Victoria’s survival and prowess. Victoria tries to make amends with Charlotte, but the pleas fall on blocked ears as Charlotte pushes her away to go join in the photo-shoot. Emily and Charlotte get their photo taken together while Daniel and Victoria discuss the handling of the lies surrounding Charlotte.
We get a flashback to the first time Emily laid eyes on Daniel (an intriguing conversation at a bar between himself and a stranger), and then Conrad shows up only to continue to shatter his relationship with Charlotte. Queen Bitch brings out her claws (hooray, I’d missed that!) to threaten Conrad into being civil and keeping this secret from Charlotte. Meanwhile Jack shows Nolan the tape and wants to play it, and Nolan fails to grab the tape from his clutches. Nolan calls to inform Emily and she makes a decision that I’m thinking she will later regret…
… which of course, turns into Amanda calling Jack and inviting him to her motel, and Emily’s behind it. Charlotte and Victoria have lunch with Declan at The Stowaway, while Conrad dubs Ashley an ‘opportunist’ and tries to draw her to his side. Jack shows up to yell at Amanda to get the truth out of her, which ends in both of them in tears and no dice. Nolan is incredibly perceptive (in my opinion) in his deduction of why Emily wants the tape so badly, and she determines to manage a take-down at the dinner with Grand-daddy.
Charlotte and Declan make a charming couple and charming conversation with Grand-daddy, while Emily takes another moment to flashback to the first time her and Daniel met. Conrad shows up and the tension you could cut with a knife; and Grand-daddy makes Victoria promise there will be no drama (fat chance of that). Nolan’s second thoughts about the tape leads to them listening to the tape together. Now Jack’s sitting on a goldmine and not a nice one either. Yipes.
Conrad apologizes to Charlotte about his lashing out at her, and the two share a sweet moment together (it ain’t going to last: I have that feeling). Now even Emily looks like she’s having second thoughts (aw, she does have a soul) and Jack goes to see Amanda again to beg to let him help her. Amanda begins to make her own decisions and then Jack storms in on the dinner and waves the tape in Victoria’s face (OMG) and then it all falls apart when Conrad spills the beans on David being Charlotte’s father. The news sends Charlotte off crying and Daniel bewildered and Emily is the only one slightly amused.
Grand-daddy goes off at Conrad and suggests that Conrad step down and Daniel take his place, while Victoria slyly watches on. Emily calls Jack to make sure he’s okay (mega sad face) and Daniel goes off to find Charlotte (after confessing to Emily that he’ll never believe another word Victoria says). Meanwhile Charlotte and Declan share sob stories about their dead daddies (okay, that was mean, it was a very, very sad moment. I snap to hide the fact that I was crying), and Victoria wanders around an empty house remorsefully.
Emily tries to go off at Nolan, and then he goes off at her, and then Emily notices her floorboards are open and her secret box has been stolen. OH MY WORD.
Questions, Comments, and Concerns…
- Who has the secret box with all the hidden Amanda and David tapes and revenge stuff in it? Is it Amanda? Victoria? WHO?
- Can Charlotte forgive Victoria and Conrad? Can she move on from this revelation?
- What will Jack do with this information he’s discovered?
- What will Victoria do to retaliate at Jack for the tape and Conrad for sharing the secret of David with Charlotte?
- I cannot WAIT for another showdown. And I can’t believe that Emily wasn’t the one to push this one - inadvertently it was Nolan who did it!
Tune in for an all-new episode of Revenge next week, titled ‘Chaos’. People, that already sounds like classic fun Hamptons drama. Til next week!
