The Vampire Diaries Recap: Episode 3.15 ‘All My Children’

While it certainly wasn’t as epic as last week’s episode ‘Dangerous Liaisons’, The Vampire Diaries always manages to give us closure on some matters and open another ten boxes worth of questions on others. But no matter what anyone says, I enjoy the new episodes each week as much as the last. It is, after all, the best show on TV right?

Between the Gilbert house and the Salvatore boarding house…

Our episode begins with a forlorn Elena, who immediately after waking decides she has to call Stefan (yet apparently she’s called Damon all night?). We flip to an equally forlorn Stefan who ignores the call. I swear, the two are eerily similar in their emotions sometimes. They’re connected, all right. Damon, on the other hand, answers her call while he’s draped naked next to a sleeping Rebekah. He tells her he’s over the whole “You broke my heart” thing. Damon? Over it? Doubtful.

Klaus’ crib…

Battling with consciences again…

All is going down tonight as it’s a full moon, and the whole thing isn’t boding well with Elena. Back to the Salvatore’s and we find Stefan accusing Damon of sleeping with Rebekah, which ends in the two deciding “Neither one of us gets her”. Ouch. When Damon leaves we can’t help but note Stefan’s wary gaze at the cup of blood he left behind. 

Elijah and Elena roam the woods…

Elijah shows up on Elena’s doorstep to take her on a little special Elijah tour of the woods of Mystic Falls. But then he demands the truth from Elena, who relents and tells him Esther’s plan. She makes the mistake of saying she wished there was something she could do to help, as it backfires and she ends up under the ground with no phone reception (how cool was Elijah’s BAMF moment though? Smash that ground in!)

At the Mystic Grill…

Back at the Salvatore’s…

Damon and Stefan find out about Elijah’s alternate plan when he phones them and gives them “‘Til 6 minutes after 9″ to stop the Bennett witches or he’ll get Rebekah to kill Elena. Meanwhile Elena tries desperately to plead with Rebekah, but she’s having none of it: “So why don’t you sit down and shut up before I ruin everything by ripping your head off.”  I love angry Rebekah.

At the Mystic Grill again…

To the witches house…

Esther talks us through the spell while Finn draws up the pentagram and fiery torches. We witness a very honourable, Elijah-like side to Finn as he explains to Bonnie and Abby why he’s so happy to die. Then back at the Grill, Meredith is a distraction so Ric can stab Kol, which ends up dead-ing Rebekah (Elena’s cue to run), and Esther picks up that something’s wrong. The link seemingly doesn’t affect Klaus, who rescues Kol then has a little fight with Stefan and Damon. Elijah comes just in time to stop Klaus from killing Damon.

Back in the caves…

Rebekah shakes off her dead-ing and zips after Elena, but Elena has managed to get into the secret cave thingy that stops vampires from entering. Meanwhile Damon and Stefan flip a coin over who gets to be hated by Elena the most for screwing up Esther’s plan. Rebekah decides that torching Elena is the way to go (go on and smoke her out) but Elena deduces that Rebekah was hurt by her actions (duh?) and she tries to make it right.

I would give my right eye to be looked at that way by Joseph Morgan.

Witches at the witchy house again…

At the Forbes’…

From the Gilbert’s to Klaus’ crib to Meredith’s…

Elena find a note Elijah left her explaining his regret over his actions that day, while he explains in person to Rebekah that their Mother made them vampires, not monsters. They did that to themselves. Klaus burns all his drawings of/for Caroline, but is interrupted by Rebekah who did some detective work on her vids of Elena – turns out there’s another White Oak tree around! Battles not over just yet. At Meredith’s Ric wakes up, takes a moment to admire Meredith sleeping, pops some pills and then notices all the notes of all the crimes around the town and a knife. He turns to find Meredith standing there with a gun pointed at him. She says, “You weren’t supposed to see that” and then BANG shoots Ric!

Another parent bites the dust...

Well, my heart was definitely racing in that last scene. But truth be told I couldn’t stop crying at Elijah’s LETTER. Hands up if you love this Original? Oh right, that’s all of you. I knew it.

Anyway, we have to wait 4 whole weeks until the next episode, so I’m thinking these questions may change. But comment away TVD lovers, I’m all ears!

• I might have been a little sarcastic in my comments this week. But Elena’s overreaction to Damon’s little night of fun made me kinda cranky. Thoughts everyone?
• Elijah. I heart him. So glad he’s alive still.
• Will Caroline truly want Tyler when he comes back? After being swooned after by the hottest hybrid to walk this earth?
• Where have Finn and Esther run off to? Kol too, for that matter?
• Is Ric going to LIVE?
• What’s Meredith’s DEAL?
• Does Damon deserve better than Elena?
• Does Stefan deserve better than Elena?
• Does everyone need to just move on from Elena?
