“I’ve Got You Under My Skin” – Being Human Episode (2×08) Recap
Being Human was back this week with an all new episode, “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” the meaning of which wasn’t apparent to me until the end of the episode.
“Even in the most hopeless battle there is a moment when the tide can turn. The supplies make it through. Reinforcements crest the hill. Where there is no possibility of rescue a way presents itself. But when help finally arrives, is it for you or the enemy?”
Sally’s time is up, and the Reaper comes to collect, but instead offers her the deal of an (un)lifetime. She can stay on our plane if, and only if, she becomes a Reaper. If not, then he’ll reap her instead. Sally has gone to some dark places this season, and though her roommates have brushed off her antics, the Reaper hasn’t. He’s been keeping track. And he likes what he sees. Unfortunately, the first person he asks Sally to reap is her old friend Stevie.
Stevie has been a bad boy it seems. He’s been acting guilty, but Sally learns it’s just that. An act. Dillon (the guy who tried to rape Sally) wasn’t the first ghost Stevie has killed. He also killed their friend Boner, and is actually in the process of stalking the guy that tormented him in high school. Sally thought that she could help Stevie, but learns he is beyond help. Despite this, Sally still can’t bring herself to kill him. But the Reaper can. Bye, Stevie, it’s been kind of nice knowing you.
“A while back you asked why I came back to Boston. I came back for you.”
Josh is still depressed from his break-up with Nora. Lucky for him his little sis is there to help him get over her with a drunken night on the town. When she finds Josh laying in bed a week later, she pulls him out, and forces him to rejoin the world. But her plans aren’t quite what they seem. Emily is actually trying to get him laid by his ex-Julia. I guess she figures he’ll recuperate faster if he has hot, drunken, hate sex. It doesn’t happen, but he learns that Julia had come to town to find him. She still cares for Josh, and the two reconnect. They didn’t hook up, but once Josh’s heart mends it could be a possibility.
“Mother’s going to want her pound of flesh, and I’m going to want a little bit more.”
Mother is on her way back to Boston, and Suren is in a frenzy. Seems she told Mother that the Orphans had been “taken care of.” Oops! Aidan spends his time trying to get things ready for Mother, while trying to save Henry’s skin. Things don’t quiet work out the way he plans. This seems to be the theme of this episode.
In order to save Henry, Aidan has to betray him. He makes Henry believe he is going to save the orphans, but once Henry has them all at his home, Aidan and Suren make the human owner sell the house. Unlike other vampire shows that have their uninvited vamps fly out the door, Being Human take a grislier route. The uninvited vamps erupt in flames. Despite Aidan’s betrayal, Henry still wants to remain in Boston with him, but it comes at a steep price.
Aidan takes Henry to have an audience with Suren. She lets him know that due to his betrayal 80 years ago, Mother will punish him severely. She, on the other hand, will punish him even more. Not just for sleeping with another woman, but for abandoning her after she killed his lover, and letting her be put to ground for his misdeeds. The price for forgiveness is his skin. All of it. Henry accepts but seems to have second thoughts once Suren starts flaying him.
Aidan, Josh, and Sally all had big plans. Aidan wanted to save his son, only to lead him to his probably death. Josh desired to escape his past, but found himself face to face with it. Sally desired to be free from the Reaper, and became the very thing she feared. No matter how divergent the roads the roommates travel on, they always seem to end up back home.
