Vampire Diaries: Season 4 Spoilers You Might Have Missed!
It’s been 2 months and 1 day since the Season 3 Finale of fan favorite TV drama The Vampire Diaries, and there’s still 3 months to go before the show returns for its fourth season. The wait has been torturous (to say the least), but thanks to a number of interviews with the cast and producers, there’s a wealth of spoiler-y goodness out there for fans to access if they so choose.
In case you haven’t had the chance to dip your fingers in some of the tasty spoilers, here’s a few to help ease this nightmare of a hiatus. And as TV After Dark will be attending this year’s Comic Con, we will be gathering some more juicy spoilers of our own to share with you over this weekend. Keep your eyes peeled TVD fans.
The Love Triangle
TVLine chatted with Executive Producer Julie Plec about the wearing-off effect Damon’s compulsion will have on her choice in the finale. Plec said: “It’s just more information. I don’t think anything is going to make her sit up and say, “Oh my God, I made the wrong decision!” and change her mind in Episode 1 [of next season]. But in the ongoing journey of her point of view about how she feels about each of these brothers, it’s going to impact her feelings for Damon and her understanding of Damon.” As for whether Damon stands more of a fighting chance? “Both brothers continue to stand a fighting chance because we’re only halfway through the series. So yes. [Laughs]“
TVLine also asked Plec whether Stefan knows that Elena picked him, and when he was crying over her body – was that because she had died or because he knew she was coming back as a vampire? “He does not know that she picked him. I like to think that that moment when he’s crying over her body, he’s crying over the loss of her human life and that now she’s going to be the thing that she never wanted. I don’t think Meredith would have been like, “Oh, I’m going to keep that secret from Stefan, but tell Damon.” [Laughs]“
Looking forward into Season 4, Plec dishes on what has the writers so excited about the future of TVD: “The one thing that got us all so excited is that everything we’re talking about feels both familiar in all the right ways, of the early parts of the series, and also fresh. It feels so fresh. And yet, it’s the same people that we know and love. They’re just going through new experiences. There’s a lot we can do here. We’re really excited about it.”
There you go, Delena fans. All is not lost – though we can be sure it won’t be an easy journey for either ships.
Klaus’ Invasion Of Tyler’s Body
Another shocking turn of events in the Season 3 Finale was when Klaus found himself in Tyler’s body, and no one (especially not Caroline!) was the wiser. TV Guide pounced on the idea that Tyler might be dead, and quizzed Plec on the events: “No, he’s not dead. In fact, if you look at the times we’ve used the spell in the past with Klaus and Alaric and Esther and Rebekah the magic is the same. So if and when Klaus vacates Tyler’s body, Tyler will still be there.” As for Joseph Morgan, Plec’s chat with TVLine assures us that this isn’t the last we’ve seen of our dimpled British serial killer: “No, we have not. It is as temporary as when he was inside Alaric’s body.” Both vessels are salvageable then? “Yes. Desiccated Klaus is a little crispy right now, but he’s probably salvageable.”
Zap2It asked Plec whether Klaus is going to have a bit of fun being Tyler, before heading back to his proper form: “Yep. He’s definitely going to prolong his stay, at least in the first episode, due to circumstance. Whatever goes down between Caroline and “Tyler” in the first episode will actually be happening between Caroline and Klaus, so we’ll have some fun there.” As for Caroline’s reaction to discovering the man she was going to run away with, is actually the psychotic and slightly delusional one who draws her ponies? TV Guide finds out: “She’s just been completely bamboozled and experienced the most horrifying and devastating moment of her entire life, so realizing that it wasn’t real and that all of those painful goodbyes were not Tyler but were with Klaus, that’s going to be a low blow.”
I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m beyond delighted that Joseph Morgan isn’t finished with us yet. But by the sounds of things, his presence will create a lot of confusion and chaos for our adorable Forwood couple.
Elena’s Transition To Vamp-Hood
Of course, the biggest shocker of the finale was Elena’s transition to vamp-hood. Phew, that was unexpected, and by far the most discussed item on the list of Season 3 shockers. TVLine quizzed Plec on Elena’s vampire status: “They’re going to try to pull out all the stops to try to prevent it when we come back, but I think the writing is on the wall as far as her journey.” As for how this new life will affect her, Plec says: “It’s going to affect her in a lot of ways. It changes everything for her. It’s not going to be easy. It’s going to be a struggle. It’s going to illuminate a lot of things about who she is, and it’s going to screw with her head and her emotions. It’s going to be tough. But the beauty of Elena is now we’ll get to see her try to rise above it and be a champion in spite of this. We’ll see how hard that is and how long it takes her to become a functioning vampire, if at all.”
How quickly can we expect Elena to transition? TV Guide asked Plec: “The transition of it all will take place in the first episode. There’s a nice 24-hour window there and that will be particularly dramatic and traumatic. Looking past that, all I can say is if Elena becomes a vampire, if you really think about who she is and what we’ve seen in her, she’s fiercely protective, she spent a lot of time in this last season getting physically stronger, her compassion is her greatest gift and her greatest weakness, so in death that becomes magnified.”
It’s all moving very fast TVD fans, and I think we’ll be hard-pressed to catch our breath once Season 4 Episode 1 is out.
Bonnie’s Dark Witchy Ju-Ju
I think we were all a little taken aback when Bonnie decided to preserve Klaus’ body, even though to let him die would have meant the certain death of virtually every person in Mystic Falls. Aside from this, I couldn’t help but wonder when everyone else is going to learn about what Bonnie has done. TV Guide asked Plec the same question, to which she replied: “Bonnie’s first thing that’s going to have to happen is that we’re going to learn how long she has to keep this secret, what kind of bargain she made with Klaus, is she going to be able to tell her friends, specifically Caroline, right away? As a witch who can be looked at for solution, trying to figure out a way to keep Elena from having to be a vampire is going to be high on her priority list and she’s going to have a very limited amount of time to do it. In the first episode, we’ll see Bonnie step right up to the precipice of the darkest form of her magic and need to either jump on in or stay back on the ledge.”
The Vampire Diaries’ and other TV show coverage at San Diego Comic Con.
But Kat Graham tells Wetpaint that we can expect Season 4 to deliver: “an even stronger Bonnie, a more surprising Bonnie, a character that’s gonna make some decisions that are going to surprise people.” Needless to say, there’s some fun to be had with Graham’s character in this much-anticipated new season.
Matt’s Guilt And All The Guilt Everywhere
As Plec tells TV Guide, “The first episode is a lot of people feeling a lot of guilt.” My biggest concern was for Matty though, and there’s a few hints around the web-o-sphere that Damon is going to take out his rage on our loving blonde jock. Yipes! Please no. I’d prefer Damon to take out his angst on Rebekah – blow her mind with your vamp sex again, I don’t care, just leave Matty alone. Anyway.
Looking deeper into Stefan’s guilt, Zap2It asked Plec where Stefan’s head is at right now. She said: “He was destroyed for so many reasons. Meredith had already broken the news to him, so in that moment of lying over Elena’s body, he was mourning her as a human and realizing that ultimately he was unable to save her from the one thing she never wanted, which was to be a vampire. That’s going to weigh on him really heavily and it’s going to piss Damon off like nobody’s business, that Stefan saved Matt instead of Elena. Stefan had a big burden in that moment and what he had to do was be true to Elena. It’s like choosing to take someone off life support because it was their wish or to keep them on because you can’t let them go. It was what she wanted, and Stefan, if nothing else, has always been able to let her make her decision. If, as a vampire, she starts to make the wrong decisions, then we’ll see a shift in Stefan and how he feels about helping Elena through things. I think we’ll start to get a glimpse at the different sides of Stefan in a relationship, where it’s not going to be all peaches and cream and love and unconditional, unwavering support of Elena’s decision. Elena is no longer Elena.”
Speaking of Elena no longer being Elena – or perhaps being 3 different kinds of Elena…
Katherine, Elena – And Perhaps Tatia?
Hollywood Life addressed another of the pressing questions we’ve had on our minds for some time now – whether Tatia, the original Petrova, might make an appearance. Nina Dobrev answered: “I guess we’ll have to cross that bridge when we get there,” she said. “I literally have to figure that whole thing out — if and when that happens.”
Could we meet the other infamous doppelgänger? Only time will tell. Speaking of time – is it October 11 yet?
