Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Episode 1x05

Secrets revealed and serum injected – “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” ups the ante…

I’ve never loved and hated an episode so much.  And the hate part isn’t in reference to the quality of “Girl in the Flower Dress.”  It’s in reference to our heroine.  Skye is killing me slowly and sporadically.  Man, these writers know how to play games with our hearts.  Maybe if we collectively sing that Backstreet Boys song to Skye, she’ll change her tune.  I just don’t know what to believe anymore, and Joss can easily drag this out for a terribly long time.  There were so many goodies this week, though.  Can’t be too upset.  Centipede came back with a vengeance.  And this Raina woman… she is up to no good in a fascinating way.  This chapter was surprisingly well-organized for all of the details they chose to pack in.  It’s a big claim, but I do believe “Girl in the Flower Dress” is the best one yet with only a few shortcomings (we all know how I feel about the Fitz-Simmons duo).

Quit playing games with my heart…

Skye and MayIs Skye actually telling the truth or not?  It is seriously difficult to tell!  And I’m hoping she doesn’t develop into a completely untrustworthy character.  She’s lied to SHIELD before on multiple occasions.  When she finally explains her secret to Coulson, we all desperately want to believe her.  We need this to be the final page of the book when it comes to her personality.  Is everything on the table?  The audience now knows about her relationship with Miles and her parents’ disappearance.  A single document with crucial information concerning her parents was redacted by SHIELD.  The paper trail leads right to the organization, so she chose to work from within to solve this mystery.  My problem is this: Can I get off the roller coaster now?  Is she truly dependable?  Her confession at the end isn’t enough to make me feel like I’m standing on solid ground.  Skye will have to prove herself.

“You’re not who you used to be.” ~ Miles

“And you’re not who I thought you were.” ~ Skye

A boss approaches…

CentipedeCentipede was a breath of fresh air.  Needless to say, though the show is called Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., we all tune in for another huge reason: the heroes.  Well, not heroes necessarily, but superpowers are a main draw to be honest!  A pyrokinetic magician was a nice touch.  Centipede works wonderfully as the evil organization directly opposing SHIELD.  They’re not the mustache twirling types.  Centipede is a sophisticated group in possession of high tech facilities, which obviously means they’re loaded too (I wonder if there’s a main backer for the project), but their title lends itself to a different vibe.  A centipede: something that creeps and crawls through the dirt.  Carnivores out for blood.  I detect a craftier nature.  Raina sacrifices Debbie at the elevator.  Mere moments later, the scientist screams as she is burned alive by Chan (Scorch).  So, this leads me to two inquiries: (1) How organized is this organization, and (2) will they consistently turn on each other?

“Oh, god.  They gave him a name.” ~ Agent Coulson

The serpent rears its clever head…

RainaRaina was a star in this episode.  She is literally the beautiful snake in the grass, and is especially talented when it comes to manipulating others.  I don’t know who she is or where she comes from, but she gives off an air of unpredictability, almost as if she knows more than she’s letting on.  Might she have superpowers as well?  We’ll see in time.  What we DO know is that she is in contact with the higher-ups of Centipede.  Raina is sent to speak to a man in prison who is charged with reaching out to a being known as “The Clairvoyant.”  Don’t know where this is heading just yet, but it sounds like more super villains will soon be on the way.  To that I say… BRING.  IT.  ON.

“Leave now and I’ll forget you, I promise, but so will everyone else.” ~ Raina

“Girl in the Flower Dress” did many great things for the progression of the plot.  We doubt our main heroine once again.  People with dastardly plans on the brain are moving forward with said plans.  Soon, new heroes/villains will use their powers without fear of explosion.  I can safely say that this, my friends, is getting good.
