STARZ Newest Original Series Black Sails Strongest in Network History
Black Sails the most widely watched new series debut in the history of STARZ original programming.
Last Saturday, Black Sails premiered on STARZ bringing in over 3.5 million viewers, 2.6 million of which watched opening weekend. This made Black Sails the most widely watched new series debut in the history of STARZ original programming. This premiere surpassed The White Queen weekend which had previously been the highest series premiere on STARZ. Aside from those viewers who watched the premiere live, an additional 900,000 viewers have also watched the premiere on-demand. Viewership for DVR, STARZ ON Demand, STARZ PLAY, Free On Demand and other online platforms are not included in these figures.

Black Sails takes place 20 years prior to Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic, Treasure Island, and centers on the tales of Capt. Flint and his crew. The series is executive produced by Michael Bay (Transformers), Brad Fuller and Andrew Form (The Purge), and created by EP Jonathan Steinberg (Human Target) and co-executive producer Robert Levine (Touch). Shot at Cape Town Studios in Cape Town, South Africa, the 10-episode series airs exclusively on STARZ on Saturdays at 9PM ET/PT.
