Starz/BBC Drama “The White Queen” Dominates UK Sunday Night Ratings
Highly-anticipated historical drama The White Queen aired on BBC One Sunday night to a whopping 5.33 million viewers. The show, which is premiering on Starz in August, is based on the bestselling novels by Philippa Gregory and is set against the backdrop of England’s War of the Roses.
Deadline reports that the BBC One viewer ratings was enough to win the night with a 22.83% share from 9.00pm – 10.00pm, but according to Broadcast, it was off by about 600,000 viewers from the slot average. Nevertheless, the show has a promising future, especially since Starz will be airing a slightly different version to the UK.
Max Irons, who stars in the series, told Britain’s Metro, “You get a lot more arse in the Starz version – the cameras kept rolling after the BBC stopped the scene.” Irons is joined by Amanda Hale, James Frain, Rebecca Ferguson, Janet McTeer and Faye Marsay. Colin Callender is executive producer for the UK’s version of The White Queen which is being produced by UK’s Company Pictures.
